For three years, I’ve centralised external data ingestion for a European pharmaceutical group’s R&D — hundreds of datasets from CROs, labs and academic partners.

Every time: a transfer method agreed at contract stage before IT is in the room, so a month goes into building a connector to copy a folder. A forty-person email thread where nobody knows whose move it is. Then a re-run a month later because files were missing or the structure was wrong.

I’ve fixed this more than once. Every fix died with the partner it was built for — a patch, not a product.

No one sells the fix. Every pharma that hits this tries building it in-house. It still doesn’t work: to a partner, each pharma’s own tool is just one more tool to learn. Multiply that across every client, and the fragmentation doesn’t disappear — it just moves to the partner’s side.

Myelin is the fix built once.
