These are situations, not deployments. Myelin is before its first customer, so nothing below is a case study. Each one is a problem we have lived, and the mechanism Myelin answers it with.

Universal

Data reaches researchers faster

The files arrived on a Friday. The person who can tell whether they are usable opens them three weeks later, because that is when the samplesheet finally gets read.

Myelin holds the delivery to your standard as it is made, so the verdict on every file already exists when your reviewer opens the batch. The gap between arrived and usable stops being a queue and becomes one review.

The process outlives the person

The one person who knew which folder the CRO uploads to, and who to chase when it is late, has left. The arrangement was never written down. It lived in a mailbox.

The arrangement lives in a Bridge instead: a private, permanent connection between your organisation and one partner, configured on the platform rather than agreed in a thread. Who may send, what they must send, who reviews it and where it lands are properties of the project rather than of one person’s memory. Their replacement opens it and sees what they saw.

For big teams

IT and R&D stop negotiating every connection

A partner is ready to send in March. The route they proposed is not one your security team has approved, and the review that would approve it does not finish in March.

Your IT approves one destination and one boundary, once. Every partner after that arrives on the reviewed path, into the standard your quality team already set, so there is no new route to say yes to and nothing for the study to wait on. Security keeps its standards and R&D keeps its dates, because neither is being asked to give one up for the other.

One vetted entry point, not a dozen ad hoc ones

Count the ways data can currently reach you: an SFTP box someone stood up in 2019, three SharePoint sites, a shared drive, and the mailbox that catches whatever nobody set up in time. Each was justified when it was created. None can be switched off, because something might still be using it.

Every partner reaches you through a Bridge that somebody on your side deliberately created. So “how many ways can data get into this company, and who owns each one” becomes a list you can read rather than an investigation you have to run, and the number of doors touching your boundary is a number you chose.

For small teams

Fewer Data Management resources needed

You do not have a data management function. You have four scientists, and whichever of them opened the last delivery is now the person who checks the next one.

The checks a delivery has to pass already exist, so nobody on a team of four writes or maintains them. Checksums verified against the manifest. A reference build that has to come from the list you set rather than be typed by hand. The subfolders every sample is required to contain. Your quality lead picks which ones apply to which data type, and that is the whole job.

Infrastructure that scales as fast as you do

Two years ago there were two partners and a spreadsheet. There are ten now, and the spreadsheet is still how anyone knows who owes you what.

The eleventh partner costs what the second cost: create the Bridge, send the invitation, and they configure their own side against the rules already attached to the project. Nothing on your side grows with the list, because there is no connector per partner and nothing for you to run. The spreadsheet goes too. Where a delivery has got to is a property of the delivery, not something a person keeps current.

After a deal

The company you just bought came with eleven partners

The integration plan has a line called data that nobody can size. How each of those eleven delivers lives in the heads of people who will not all still be here next year.

Each inherited partner is an invitation rather than an integration project, and their first delivery is held to your standard rather than to the one they used to meet. Nothing about the old arrangement has to be reverse-engineered first, because it is being replaced rather than wrapped. Historical data is a separate migration, and Myelin is transit rather than storage. What changes here is everything that arrives after the deal closes.
